Intersession Day 1 of Sun

Hi guys! I had a really great time getting to know everyone better and I really enjoyed our book discussion, the Tableaux Vivant activity, and lastly our moving "cross the line" facilitating. It means a lot to me that you guys feel trusting enough of me that you can share the things that you did and I also feel very lucky to have friends who I can feel comfortable enough around to share the things that I shared with you guys.

I also really enjoyed discussing the book The Working Poor by David Shipler this afternoon. It was really interesting to me to hear how everyone understood the book. I think how the book impacts you is dependent on the environment where you grew up in. I grew up in a very privileged neighborhood in a very wealthy area where I was shielded from the issues of poverty and homelessness and this book really helped me to understand how being poor can lead to so many more problems. As the quote on page 11 of The Working Poor states that poverty is rarely an isolated problem within one family, leading to multiple problems sprouting from such a simple problem such as missing work, a brief cold or sickness, or missing picking up your child from childcare one day.

I feel really lucky to be spending the first week of second semester with you guys and I can't wait to build together tomorrow with Habitat for Humanity and to meet back up with the Homeless Coalition Board of Pinellies County. :)
